Calling Kuwait

Calling Kuwait can be very expensive, so phones and phone calling cards are probably the next thing you’ll need to know about when coming to Kuwait. Just like USA, Kuwait has become a nation of cell phones. Most people here don’t have a monthly plan like in the US, but rather opt for a "pay as you go" plan, military included. The advantages of this are you only pay for the amount of minutes you really use on your phone.

However, mobile phone calls tend to be very high priced, and you’ll probably end up texting like everyone else, if you do not use international calling cards. A monthly plan might give you better phone call rates, if you think you’ll use telephone more, but that depends on you. One may ask, though, how will I keep in touch with family from back home? It is an interesting question. Mobile phones aren’t the best way to go when calling back home; the charges are astronomical. Two options are rather popular: calling from a pay phone or calling from a land line. Pay phones can often get expensive, as well as inconvenient, but installing a landline can also be very expensive. Best way to go might be to find someone with a landline you can use, or go into an internet café with your own callingcard.

Another way to go, which I prefer, is to buy a phone card for your friends and family to call you. The rates are much cheaper when calling Kuwait from the United States of America, and you can find some really great cards on the net, Skype in particular. You can purchase the cards off the internet, then give the card info to your friends and family from home and arrange times for them to call you.
