Why Banks Upset Me (more than they should)

I’m not against the corporate bank system per se. It’s a solid capitalist ideal and it has worked well for most of the last century or so (if you discount the whole depression fiasco). But, I will say that it bothers me when one institution – or a collection of institutions – has so much control over me, and how I live my life. Say I wanted to get a small business loan to start up my own coffee shop in Tulsa or something. I would undergo scrutiny like you’ve never experienced before. The government should only be so thorough, and I can’t complain because this bank is giving me their money to use.

After picking up an equipment lease for my business and researching other, lower interest small business loans, I would be far from happy with my situation though as I realized just how in debt to the bank I was at that point – it would take months or even years to start to make a profit and every morning when I woke up I would know that I was under the thumb of the world’s largest corporations. I’m not really against the banks, I’m just against how much debt they seem to hold over us – it doesn’t help that I’m currently in debt myself for a variety of things – a home, a car, an education – it all adds up.
